Rancho Leonero Resort

In Loving Memory of

Roy Baldwin

a.k.a "Sr. Divertido" & "Mr. Fun"

On November 8th, 2006

Rancho Leonero and our extended friends and family

lost one of our best friends and CFO for 17 years.

We are greatly gifted with all of the stories and photos of his adventures...
we will keep Roy's Adventure Journals for you to enjoy.

We miss you, Roy.

To all of my friends at "The Ranch,"

I just heard about the passing of "Senor Divertido." I am deeply saddened. I love the ranch. Mr. Roy and Ranger were a big part of why I have. I also loved his writing and all of the years I have been going to "the Ranch" (I believe I started going in 1992) Roy was a huge part of the experience. I am pretty sure that I read his scrapbook / story of his first trip down to the Ranch from San Diego on every one of my numerous trips to "the Ranch." His stories, humor, knowledge, congeniality, courtesy, service, friendship, kidding, etc., etc. will live with me as part of the many great times I have enjoyed with you folks. When thinking about or traveling to "the Ranch" Mr. Roy was always part of the thoughts of the great memories I had or was soon to experience. He was one of those at "the Ranch" that I think of as distant friends. Please extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family and many, many close amigos.

I have often envied Roy. He had the courage and spirit of adventure to lead the type of life I have always wanted to live, in a place I dream about. I know many of my friends of the "Portz/Pepping group" that have traveled with me on our many trips felt the same way about him. I never heard anyone say anything but good things about Mr. Roy. I think Mr. Roy's and my favorite singer/song writer described him in a verse from one of his numbers when he said "living his life like a song." When I think about Mr. Roy I will always remember that verse.

Although I am sad that he was called away from us, he will be forever missed by many. I am glad that Mr. Roy now lives in a place where I envision him looking out over the Sea of Cortez, sitting in a Baja style rocking chair, under a palapa roofed patio, with Mr. Ranger on his shoulder, Jimmy Buffett playing in the background, Pacifica in hand, telling stories and jokes of "who caught what and who sat on their butt" to an array of smiling friends. Living the great life as "Senor Divertido." - "Go Everywhere - Do Everything." May he rest in peace with his mile wide smile gracing those he is with! As he did for us.

I look forward to returning to the "Ranch" this coming fall and seeing my many "distant" friends. Please give my best to them all, especially mi buen amigo Lorenzo M. May good luck, good fortune and great fishing be with you all.

Kind regards,

Mike Portz - Las Vegas, NV.
Hello Rancho Leonero. My family and I were so upset to see that Roy passed away earlier this month. He was kind of the "Ambassador" of the Ranch. Upbeat, helpful and a person we all looked forward to seeing during every visit.

I wonder if there is a link where others who knew Roy were sharing their memories? Can you share any other information on his death...sudden?

Again, our hearts go out to you all at the Ranch.

The Needham Family

So sorry to hear about Roy. Another Baja original gone, and a whole world
passing away.

Very best regards to everyone at Leonero...

I am silent.

When will his ashes be spread? Are you having a service of any kind, perhaps a mapping trip in January?

I just don't know what to say. I am Karen from Vancouver, WA. We've been corresponding for awhile, have been trying to meet.

Please fill me in on the details if you may.

My heart is heavy and I'm thinking about you all a lot. I'll be up next week.
Den
